- Hello everyone, this is Yolanda, and today I'm going to show
you how to make a blanket using this pattern here, this stitch. The edges have the white, kind
of the peekaboo white there, and blue. The middle is all a solid color, you just need to choose
what colors you want to use. And so let's get the party started.
Hello everyone, to begin our blanket, I want you to see, this the little jacket, but the edges are the only
places where we have the white, the white and the blue or the white and your other main color. The middle portion will
all be a solid color. So we always work the
middle portion first, after we do that, then we go around and work around the edges, okay? So to begin with this, this
is done in multiples of three. So you just need to make
your chain as long or as wide as your blanket is going to be.
I'm only gonna be working in a miniature so that I could show you how to do this, but then of course you would just do yours in multiples of three, okay? So to begin, I'm gonna
slip, do a slip loop, and pull my yarn out. I'm using the size H hook,
which is a size eight, and it's five millimeters. I'm using medium worsted acrylic yarn. This a Loops and Threads Impeccable, this color is called lemon,.
But you can do it for
a boy, blue and white or pink and white for a girl, or yellow when you don't know the color or if you just like yellow, too, yellow. So I'm gonna start with 15 chains. One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15. Okay, so that's my 15 chain,
I'm gonna do three more.
One, two, three, for my 18 chain. I'm going to on the
fourth chain from the end, I'm gonna do double crochet, I will wrap my yarn around my hook, go into that chain there, there should be three hooks in my, three loops on my yarn, pull through two, and then the next two. That will be your double crochet. And you're gonna do a double crochet in each chain across.
So just continue to do
that and go to the end. You may have, you know, whatever
number you have of chains, just do all the way across. Do it in multiples of three. So whether you have 30 or
60 or 90, that's up to you.
Okay, here I'm coming to my last chain. So I do my last double crochet there. Now to go up to my next row, you are going to crochet three chains. One, two, three, turn your work over, and now you're gonna count three chains.
This includes this turning chain. So here, you're gonna go one, two, three, and in the space between
the third and fourth, double crochet, you're gonna
stick your hook in there, through there, and you're gonna
do a single crochet there. Do the same thing one, two,
three, skip those three, one, two, three, and crochet into the space,
not into the chain, okay? You want your stitch to go there. Then do it again, one, two, three.
You're gonna do that all the way across. One, two, three. One, two, three. Stitch in there.
One, two, three, and here I have one, two, three, and I'm on that turning chain, so here, when you're in the end, remember this counts as a double crochet, so you go one, two, three, and we're going to hook into the top of this chain
here, our turning chain. Oops, if I can get it in there. There we go. And we're gonna do our
single crochet there.
See? So we're gonna have,
our last one is gonna be on top of that turning chain. Now here, I'm gonna do, I'm gonna turn my work over. But we want to be working our
next three double crochets inside of this space. So I don't want you to go up here, because you're gonna be outside.
So once you're here and we turn around, I want you to stick your hook
inside of this space here, you're gonna go in there, and you're gonna pull out, excuse me, and do a slip stitch,
just to get you inside of this space we're gonna work. Now you can do your three. One, two, three, because
we're inside of that space, and then we're gonna do
two more double crochets because that first one counted
as your first double crochet. Two.
Okay. So now we have three double crochets inside of that little space. Now, without chaining, we're
gonna do three double crochets in each three chain space here. So now, you go to your next space, and you do your three double crochets.
Okay, so you have three there, three here. Go into your next space,
all the way across, I want you to do that all the way across. Okay? Continue until you have all
your double crochets in there. And see, that's why I'm only teaching you on this little piece, so that you can learn how to do it, because I don't know how wide
you want to make your blanket.
When you're doing your foundation chain, if you don't want to get
confused of how many chains do I have across, is that 20,
is that, you know, whatever? I just count, like I said,
it's a multiple of three. So I just keep counting one, two, three, and then do one, two,
three, one two, three, one, two, three, one, two, three, I know it sounds silly,
but I just do that until I get the width I need, that
way I don't have to figure out and try to divide or do your
multiplications, whatever. If you just say one, two,
three, one, two, three, one, two, three, one, two, three, go all the way, as wide as you want, you already know you end on three, you know you've done the right amount. So here, I've done my second row, and see how it's creating that stitch? Now here, we do the same thing.
Once we're here at the end, I'm gonna chain three
to go up to my next row. One, two, there. We're gonna repeat row two. Turn my work over, and here's one, two, three, over that same space here.
I'm gonna stick my hook in there and do a single crochet. See? You're repeating the same thing. One, two, three, skip your next three, one, two, three, and it's gonna be directly, see if you can see this, where your last single crochet was, okay? So you're skipping three. Put your hook in through there and pull it out.
One, two, three, skip your next three, one, two, three, stick
it in there, pull it out. One, two, three, skip your next three, pull it out. And here, we're gonna go on
the top of our turning chain, remember? One, two, three. I'm gonna do my three chains.
One, two, three. One, two, the top of the third chain here. Excuse me. We're gonna stick it into the chain, we're not going to go in that space there.
There you go. So you have these little loops. Now, I want to turn my work around, I need to get inside of that
little loop there, okay? So the first chain is the only one that has that little extra stitch, after this, they're all gonna be three. So here, I'm gonna put my hook inside of my three chain space.
I'm gonna go in there, pull it out, and do a slip stitch to get
me back inside of this loop. I wanna do all my work in there. Now, I go up, one, two, three, and then continue doing
my double crochets there. One, two, the first three
chains count as one, go into your next space, and do your three double crochets
in each three chain space.
And you just continue doing that for as many rows as you want your width and your length of your blanket. Okay? Oops. Just lost the yarn there. And that's all you do.
You're gonna repeat. So I'm just gonna show you, after I finish this row, how you would do your edges, okay? That's what we're gonna do. It's three, then I go to my next one. One, oops, two, and three.
I have three chains there, okay? Okay, now, I'm going to pretend
that this is the big size, the whole size of my blanket, because it's the same technique anyway. So here, I'm at the corner. I'm not gonna cut my yarn, because I'm gonna be
using it in the next row, and I just like to pull it up. If you want to cut it, that's up to you.
But what I do here, excuse
me, before I do my last, so I would have two double crochets there, I'm gonna wrap my yarn and pull it through my first two loops, and then here is where I'm
going to grab my white yarn and pull that through there. Now I wanna drop the yellow yarn back, I'm not going to cut it,
if you want to cut it, that's up to you. And now I'm going to start here to do my white, the little white points. So here, I'm going to do three chains.
One, two, three. And then I'm gonna turn my work over, and I'm going to go here, in between this work here, because you should be
finished on the edge here, so here, I would do three chains, and then in this space here, I'm gonna stick it in there and do my single crochet, okay? And I go one, two, three, into
my next little space there, in here, and do my single crochet. I'm gonna do one, two, three, and then when you get to the corner, I'm just going to go into my stitch here and do a single crochet,
and then do three. One, two, three, move over around my corner, go into my three post here, that space one, two, three, I'm gonna skip there, go in there, single crochet.
One, two, three, this is how you're gonna go
all the way around your work. Skip your next three. See how you're working in the same spaces where those single crochets are? One, two, three, skip those three, single crochet. One, two, three, single crochet.
One, two, three. Go into your corner there. Single crochet, and then
you're gonna do three more, one, two, three, to
work around the corner. Go into the next space here.
You're gonna do this all the
way around your blanket, okay? And you're gonna have that row of white. And of course, yours would
be however big you want it. When you get to the corner,
I'm gonna, in this one, when it's just the three crochets here, one, two, three, I go into
the third chain up here, and then there I'm gonna
just stick in my crochet. Okay? And then one, two, three, go around to my next three
spaces there, single crochet, see how it's doing that outline? One, two, three, go to my next one.
I'm sorry if you're getting
bored just watching me do this, I just want to be able to
show you how you do the work all the way around the
edge of your blanket. Three, I'm almost at the end here. One, two, three. Okay, I've gone all the
way around my blanket, so now I'm gonna slip stitch
into my first chain there.
I'm gonna drop the white, and I'm gonna bring back the yellow, pull it out, and then I always kind of
tug on the white a little bit to get it tight so it won't go too loose. Once again, this is our second row, and it's gonna be the
last row of our yellow. I'm going to slip stitch into
the inside of that work there. Okay? Because I want to do my
double crochets there.
One, two, three. This time, we're only gonna do three in each of these spaces. No more six in the corner, okay? So here, it's only three. One, and then one more, because
I had the three counts as one double crochet.
Now you go into each space and do three double crochets all the way around your row, okay? This is only three, there's
no more six in the corners, okay? Just three there. So go all the way around. Okay, I'm working my
last three in the corner, and if you think this looks too flat and you want it a little rounder, you can continue to to do
six in each corner edge here. But I like the way this looks like this.
So here, I've done my last three. Now I'm gonna slip stitch into here, and I'm gonna bring both the
yellow and the white out, okay? But now, I'm gonna cut off my yellow, because I'm done here, okay? And once I cut off the yellow, sometimes I'll tie it onto the white, and then I'm gonna sew
that tail back in, okay? So that's up to you. I'm gonna bring out my... Do my stitch there, my chain through there.
Now here, once again I'm
gonna do chain three. One, two, and three, okay? And then I'm gonna go into my space here, one, two, three, in here, do a single crochet, and now here, I'm gonna do the little picot stitch here, picot stitch. If you don't want to do
it, you could do it plain. I think that little bump
gives it a really good look.
So then here, once I go into my space, I'm going to chain one, two, three, and then go back into my first chain. Oops, here. And slip stitch. And it makes that little bump there.
Then I do one, two, three chains, and then go into my next stitch. Oops, I think I put an extras stitch here, sorry about that. One. Oops, sorry.
It's two chains in between there. So I do my picot stitch
and then I do chain two. Go in there, slip, and
then do my single crochet. One, two, three, come back and slip stitch
through my first chain, and then chain two.
One, two, move into my next space. Single crochet. So you're gonna start getting
these little bumps here. One, two, and I've heard
people just do it with two, I like to do it with three.
And then I go back into my first chain, pull through and slip
stitch through there. Then do two chains, one, two, and then move into my next space. Okay? So this is what it's gonna
end up looking like, the edge. The little tips.
We'll move that light there. So the tips will be there. Your little picot stitch. If you don't like that, then you could just do the plain one.
I think this gives it so much more. Because see, if you did a plain, you just go one, two, three, and then you're gonna go down, and your edge will look like this. It still looks cute, but
it's not as cute as having that little picot stitch, okay? So here, after I did my chain here, I would go one, two, three,
go back into my first chain, and do a slip stitch
through both of those. Okay? And now I chain two.
One, two, and then skip my
next three, one, two, three, go in there. And see how cute that looks? That's how your edge of
your blanket is going to do. So go ahead and do that
all the way around, and you will be done. Okay guys, I'm coming to my last space, so I'm going to do my
single crochet there, but then I stop, I'm gonna slip stitch into
my next little chain there just to finish it off, because then I would have
a little weird space, and then here I'm gonna
do my three chains, one, two, three, slip stitch through my
first space at the end, okay? And now, I'm gonna just kinda stick it in there.
Now that I do my last one... Oh, I don't know why it undid itself. I'm gonna cut off my yarn, click, fasten off my ends, okay? Okiedokie. And my blanket is done.
Well, my miniature blanket. You would of course have yours a lot... Yours would be full size. So this is how it comes out, comes up.
I think it looks really nice, and it's very different. It's like not, like what you usually see. Okay? So... That is what you would do.
Just remember, you keep doing
your chains in sets of three. If you don't want to do any
math, just start counting, just start making chains
and counting your chains, one, two, three, one, two, three, one, two, three, until you
get your desired width, and remember, you're gonna have two other little rows around that. So just get it as wide as you want. Once you do that, then just
start doing your pattern, and then this is exactly
how you would work it, and this is how your
blanket would be completed.
